Lekki Robbery Suspect sues Police for N1m


One of the four Lekki bank robbery suspects has taken the Nigerian Police Force to court, requesting N1million harms for affirmed unlawful detainment.

In a suit at the Ikeja High Court in Lagos, Ebi Tosan implored that the police be coordinated to discharge him on safeguard.

Respondents in the suit are Lagos State Commissioner of Police
and the Officer-in-Charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Ikeja.

Tosan, 20, was paraded by the police with Duke Odogbo, 38, Lawrence Kingsley, 31, and Ekelemo Kuete, 30 regarding the March 12 theft of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) in Lekki, Lagos.

The candidate, who was captured on April 5, guaranteed that it was unlawful for the police to keep him in detainment without safeguard.

The matter couldn't be heard yesterday when it preceded Justice Lateefa Okunnu in light of the fact that the police did not convey the candidate to court.

In any case, his direction, Chief S.W. Baidi, whined that his proceeded with confinement without safeguard was an "encroachment and reduction of the candidate's sacred right to individual freedom, flexibility of development and assumption of honesty."

He asked the court to proclaim that Tosan's capture, torment and proceeded with detainment abused the candidate's rights under Sections 34(1)(a), 35(1)(4) and 41 of the 1999 constitution.

In a 26-passage affirmation in backing of the beginning summons, Tamuno Amos, who guaranteed to be the candidate's uncle, said his nephew's proceeded with confinement was a planned demonstration by the police to "concentrate a confession booth articulation from him on the claimed offense."

Amos affirmed that he had not been permitted to see his nephew since his capture on April 5.

The deponent said:

"The candidate is enduring on regular routine without access to nourishment, shower and different accommodations and he may bite the dust in authority unless conceded safeguard."

Last July 9, Justice Okunnu guided the police to create the candidate in court yesterday. In any case, he was not brought, in this way slowing down the becoming aware of his application .

Equity Okunnu has requested that Lagos State Attorney-General be joined in the suit.

She dismissed the matter till October 22.

The judge said if there was any earnestness, the candidate could show up before October 22 under the watchful eye of another judge who will be sitting amid the court's yearly excursion, which starts one week from now.
